I am fortunate
to work with Lynn Rowe, a nurse and head of PACU at Valley
View. On January 22, Lynn is going to Haiti to try to help in the
recovery process. Her spirit of volunteering is incredibly
admirable, and I would love to be able to go with her-- but because I
can't, I have asked what I can do to support her in this noble trip.
There are
several ways to help, and of the most use she said would be through
donations. I have decided that $10 from all massages with me through the
end of January (and any gratuities) will be donated
to helping the people of Haiti through Lynn.
By scheduling a "Helping Haiti" massage
with me, or buying a gift certificate now through January 31,
2010-- you will be directly helping the people of
Haiti. (Receipts are available for tax purposes).

Thai Massage

Nick Goranov
has just returned after spending 3 months in Thailand studying the
art of Ancient Thai massage. For those of you who seek relief
from chronic tension, back pain, tight hamstrings, over exertion
due to stress or being active and athletic-- you must try
Thai Massage with Nick Goranov. Nick has been a massage
therapist for over 10 years, and he and I have worked together for
the past year. I personally and professionally can attest
to the quality and caliber of his massage skills, training and
techniques. Nick has been trained in a variety of modalities of
massage therapy; which now includes Thai
Massage.
Traditional Thai Massage is performed on a mat on the
floor, rather than on a raised massage table. This allows for
many movements and procedures that are not practical or effective on
a raised massage table, and, most of all, for the best use of the
practitioner's body weight.
Starting at the feet, moving up to the head, the
receiver's body is massaged, moved, stretchedand loosened through out
four different positions: front, side, back and sitting. This enables
Nick to perform a great variety of yoga stretches and also to work
pressure points and muscles that are not as
easily accessible from a front position (as you can see in the
pictures). For more information--watch a video
of Thai Massage here.

In Thai Massage the use of weight and leverage
is very clever. Rather than relying on muscular force or pressure,
strength and balance come from the center of the body, enabling the
practitioner to conserve energy and use it in the most efficient
way.
In the Ancient Art of Thai Massage the client
is comfortably dressed
to facilitate yoga stretches and adjustments.
